In designing Belmont Trolley’s station, architect Tim Johnston, and his team at Helt Design in Belmont, began with a study of historical trolley barns. These facilities were characterized by their “utilitarian elegance,” as Tim describes, featuring large open spaces, sturdy steel trusses, and expansive windows that flooded the interiors with natural light.
“These characteristics,” Tim says, “combined with Belmont’s historical charm, influenced our choice of materials, such as exposed steel framework, glass, and wood, which honor the industrial aesthetic while integrating modern design sensibilities.”
By incorporating these timeless elements, Belmont Trolley’s facility will reflect the grandeur of traditional trolley barns, creating a space that feels both historic and welcoming.
